The Pursuit of Excellence
Being a great husband and father takes time. You're not the best from the get-go. You're not born a great husband or father. Actually, just to be a "good" husband and "good" father takes an enormous amount of time, years. So, you have to choose. Which are you going to work to be excellent at? Family life? or work life? Trying to figure out how to balance your work life with your personal life can be a challenge. Being successful in both personal and occupational at the same time would be ideal. However, to be excellent in either requires investing all, that's all, of your time. Read more... Consciousness
What makes a man? What does it take to live like a king?
The Protector
Men protect women and children, especially members of their own family. Man was created with a physically large and strong body, built for physical burden and endurance. Mature men are courageous in protecting and defending their family. It's instinctual. A king will defend and shield from harm those who need such care. While learning how to be a protector, a man will grow in maturity. It's more than just a responsibility. It's an opportunity to grow, to mature. To protect women and children requires a development of strength and manliness. And when a man is unable to serve in this way, he suffers. Historically, to protect meant to literally provide protection against things that would cause harm or create difficulties, such as the outside elements and predators, to find food to prevent starvation, to create warmth and keep away the cold. Today, I adjust the thermostat. It's not really the same. Read more... Believing Equals Receiving
Listen to other men. What they say is what they believe. Whatever a person believes is directly manifested into what they say. Have you ever noticed that someone who is doing really well in their life, also speaks well about living? Have you noticed a friend who's going through tough times confess that things are really bad, never been worse, and that life sucks. It's not just a mere coincidence. One actually manifests into another. You speak what you're thinking, and what you speak manifests what you're doing. Believing equals receiving. So, watch watch you say. Read more... Don't Take Me Too Seriously
The qualities an enlightened, spiritual man are the foundation upon which a man builds his masculinity and a successful life. True principles endure throughout a man's life. While the world arounds him changes, a man core beliefs, principles, code of conduct, should not change. Real men have strong foundations and anchors. Even though qualities and principles are very important, knowledge on this subject matter is limited. Some of the most important information for men is not readily available. Therefore, study. The King's Guide is intended to be a guide for men. Specifically, men who are unafraid to be masculine. A masculine man is purposeful, confident and driven. And this man is also totally turned on by the feminine. He loves his woman. Dedicated to her - through his work and his sexuality. The King's Guide is written for men who have achieved an understanding of other genders and sexual preferences, who consider men and women to be social, economic, and political equals, but they want to live a fulfilled life that celebrates sexual and spiritual passions inherent in the masculine and feminine polarities. A king does not seek personal enlightenment through his work. Nor does he seek to find his life's purpose through his woman. Work is for manifesting purpose. Woman is for unconditional, intimate love. For a mature man, both work and women are where you give your all. Giving your gift. Expressing your purpose in life. But, your work is the manifestation of your purpose in life, that which you deliberately decide to give to others. Your woman is whom you intimately and without reservation share who you are. The following is a study we did in our weekly fellowship. You could probably describe your best friend's personality, distinguishing characteristics, favorite food, or hobbies. Right? Just as you can describe your friend, you can describe what God is. God gives us a description of Himself in his Word, so that you can know God. Let’s learn about what God is by looking up each of the bible verses in this article. A study of the following verses will help answer the question, “Who is God?” In Genesis 1:1, we see that God is a creator. In Deuteronomy 7:9, God is faithful, which means reliable; trusted; true to one's word, promises, and vows. Psalms 34:8 says that God is good. Psalms 135:5 says that God is great. Psalms 147:5 says that God is powerful. Isaiah 26:4 says that God is strong. Read more... You're Always Energy
Being who you are is an ongoing, lifelong process. At times of meditation or prayer, its starts with connecting to who you are at the most deepest level of yourself. When you're quiet and meditating, when you are at the most relaxed, quite, and easy state of being, you get closer to who you really are. Your wife, children, job, and art are important in your life, but they can not connect you to your source of being. How many hours today did you focus on your job, your work, and your occupational responsibilities? And how much time did you invest in focusing your attention to yourself and your source of being? What happens when you try to switch from your daily routine and busy work schedule to an effortless subsidence into self awareness and the universal energy that surrounds you and is within you. God is present everywhere. Read more... Keep in the Position of Strength
There's a story about a boating trip where a woman and her daughter go out and have some fun. The boat anchors in a shallow area, so that everyone can jump into the water an swim around with the fish and stingrays. The wind picks up suddenly, and the captain starts calling everyone in. The woman finds the floatation and rope line and starts back to the boat. The daughter is right behind her. The woman gets up on the boat and turns around to assist her daughter, but she's not there. She lost her grip on the life line rope and is drifting away, with the waves and the current now getting stronger. The woman on the boat panics and jumps in to help her daughter. But she now realizes that she's in just as much trouble as her daughter and is of no help. Now, they're both in need of the captains help. They both need to be rescued. In the end, everyone came out fine and safe. But, the moral to the story is, don't sacrifice yourself to help someone, because you both might end up in need of rescue. Instead of sacrificing yourself for your family, it's better to keep yourself in a strong position, like the captain of the boat in the previous story, and save those who need help, and be a leader for those you're responsible for. A smart father, a true leader of a family, never completely sacrifices himself. He stays in a position of strength and leadership. He never panics and jumps off the boat. Take care of your woman, your girlfriend, your lover, your wife, your children, your family, your friends. Take care of them. But don't jump off the boat. Read more... God and the Earth
Every Sunday morning for about 30 minutes, our family has a bible study. We have friends and family come over. We sing a few songs, we pray together, and then we have a teaching. Because the kids outnumber the adults in the study group, we always have a craft or activity for the children. Below are my slides of notes, including images, that I recently used to teach about "God and the Earth." Read more... Steel Qualities of a Man
The ideal man is one of both steel and velvet. The steel qualities are different than those of velvet. (Read about the velvet qualities of a man). He's as strong as steel. He assumes physical burdens. He earns his bread by the sweat of his face. He provides for his wife and family. He serves others. He does not look to others to do what he's responsible to do himself. He prides himself in solving problems, especially when they become difficult. He shoulders his obligations. He is creative in thought, clever in his ways, and experienced. If a man can not function in his fullest capacity as he has decided to serve, he is most uncomfortable. His wife builds more faith and belief in him as he accepts his responsibilities, particularly after she leaves the security of her parents' home and makes her way with his. She relies on his sense of duty to provide, protect and guide her. He cares about others. He respects and protects women and children. He is a man of honor - known by others as being fair, trusted, honest and respected. Read more... A Woman's Role
Behind every great man... A man can't be a king without a queen. A man can achieve great things in life when he has a great woman by his side. A man can do many wonderful things on his own, but a great woman can make every moment in life like a gift from God. A woman shares equally in the responsibility for the family. This is a sacred responsibility for the family's success. She is a partner, yet strongly independent. She supports her husband and makes him feel like a king. She has a desire, often greater than the man's, for the children's health, maturity and prosperity. Mothers tend to work tirelessly to create and maintain a happy home and raise healthy children. She is in ways dependent upon her husband, particularly for his leadership, decisions and actions. She deserves to receive full understanding and deep appreciation from her husband. She works to be in alignment and harmony with her husband in achieving her personal goals, and expects to receive his understanding, unselfishness, and unconditional love. She believes in her man and trusts him just has he does her. Read more... Learn How Your Spirit Makes Your Work Fruitful
Work is very important to our lives. I teach my kids that their work could be walking the dog, sweeping the floor, doing the dishes, taking out the trash, doing homework, or cleaning their rooms. Whatever work we do, we ought to do it heartily. And when we do that, our work is fruitful. In this article, we'll learn about:
Whatever may be our task, we can work at it heartily, from our soul. And in our work, we can do something not just for others, but for our own spirit (God's presence within us). We can work for money, material possession, or praise from others. Certainly. However, ... Read more... Do You Have Sight, but No Vision?
In this article, you'll learn how the measure of a man is the spiritual and physical health of his family. And for a man's family to be healthy, he has to have vision. Helen Keller was asked, "Is there anything worse than blindness?" She answered, "Oh, yes. A man with sight and no vision." In 2007, I moved my family from Pennsylvania to Colorado. We sold the house, gave away all of our possessions to our neighbors, put a mattress in my cargo van, threw the kids in, and took off to our new adventure. We left what was a comfortable life and set off across a vast country, right through the St. Louis Arch, just like the early American settlers did as they moved West into undiscovered country. Those brave folks, riding in their wagons, could not see all of the dangers ahead. They couldn't even see over the next hill. They didn't know when their next good, hot meal or cold drink of water would come. In order to survive, the men leading those explorers had hope, believing, and vision. Read more... How to Have Joy, Peace, & Love in Life
Everything begins with a thought, and anything can arise from thinking. This can be good, because all things are therefore possible. And it can be bad, because without understanding how the mind works, our lives can be like riding a wild horse at night. The mind:

The Renewed Mind
There’s an entire lifetime of learning of how important are the thoughts in your mind. Your thoughts affect your world. When you change your thoughts of things, the things you think of change. When you change the way you see things, the things you see change. If you change the way you love someone, that someone you loved changes. And it’s easy to change the way you think of things, or change your mind. In Proverbs 23:7, it says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” We are what we think. The thoughts I have in my heart, deep down inside, that’s who I am. And we keep that heart like a treasure - protected. Proverbs 4:4 reads, "He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live." Our hearts retain, or keep, our words. What we say and think is in our heart. Proverbs 4:20-23 reads, "20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." We guard our hearts. We are alert to the thoughts we allow in our hearts, because out of the heart, the innermost part of our mind, comes the issues of life. Read more... Spirituality is Achieved Mentally
There are a lot of truths about the heart, mind and love that have been shrouded by religious dogma. So, let's not get bogged down by religious doctrine, but, rather, learn how we can use our minds, thoughts, consciousness to shape our lives. It is your mind that shapes your life. Proverbs 23:7 says tells us that "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Let's take a look at love. How do we think about love, receiving it, and giving it? Might it be possible that the way we think about love can determine how we experience it? Yes. Read more... Truth and Freedom
A wise man once said that if you know the truth, the truth shall make you free. This statement contains a truth that releases men from their prisons and sets them free to live a life that is more than abundant. It's God's will for everyone to be free. Free from anything that holds you back, prevents you from being your true, amazing self. Some of us have secrets, things we don't want to share, defeats, fears, worries, doubts, condemnation, sickness, disease, etc. You were not created to be imprisoned by these things. God wants you to be totally released from these prisons. To be free, you have to first get focused, then believe, and finally live accordingly. Read more... Tree House: Design & Materials
If you get the chance, build a tree house for your kid. I have three. All daughters. And one weekend, I built them a tree house. Let me tell you that it was easy and fun. Just keep in mind the following three things:
Being in Alignment & Harmony
When I was a home builder, I used a special tool called a plumb-bob. It kept everything in alignment and harmony. A plumb-bob or a plummet is a weight, usually with a pointed tip on the bottom, that is suspended from a string and used as a vertical reference line, or plumb-line. The instrument has been used since at least the time of ancient Egypt to ensure that constructions are "plumb", or vertical. It is also used in surveying to establish the nadir with respect to gravity of a point in space. They are used with a variety of instruments to set the instrument exactly over a fixed survey marker, or to transcribe positions onto the ground for placing a marker. Read more... The Guide
A mature man is a guide. Let's learn about what a guide is, including some real world examples. A king, the head of the house, is a mature man. He is a guide for his wife and his children. Many men believe this is a God-given role. Many men trust that this leadership position means that they are accountable to God. And being a guide is part of the plan of God, or the Source, or the Universe, or whatever you may call it. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Scientology all have some type of teaching about a man being a guide. Read more... Dryer Exhaust Hood

Energy (God) is Everywhere
Spirit is a force that exists in the universe. It is energy. Where is it? It is everywhere. You're made up of it. You're essentially made up of elements and energy. And so is everything else. If you think of yourself in this way for a moment (elements and energy), you'll realize that deep down inside, you're made up of pure energy. Vibrating energy. If we take a piece of your body, say your thumb, and break it down into molecules, we'll see atoms. Break atoms down further, and you'll see electrons. Then particles, and sub-atomic particles. And finally, if you try to take these quantum particles and smash them together to see what they're really made of, you'll find that there's no particle at the source. There's nothing but pure unbound energy, vibrating really fast. So, at our core, we are essentially boundless vibrating energy. I call it a spiritual energy, because it has purpose. Read more... Trusting in God by Praying
It is written that you should be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God [Phil 4:6]. Sometimes you have challenges in life, and the only relief comes through prayer. Sometimes pressure can cause anxiety. What should you do in those situations? Pray. There are three aspects aspects of prayer: (1) praying, (2) supplication, and (3) thanksgiving. That's three aspects. But there's one more. 1 Tim 2:1 says, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men." This verse has all three aspects of praying, and one additional aspect, a fourth, intersessions (or prayer on behalf of others). That's four (4) aspects of praying. Let's learn about them. There's energy all around you. We were formed from it. Your physical body is a manifestation of this invisible field of energy, like a swimmer emerging from in an infinite ocean of energy. Physicists refer to this field of pure limitless energy as the quantum field or quantum possibility wave. At the instant of your conception, elements were set in motion related to how your physical form would appear and how you would unfold. This energy is infinite in its potential, and it is just waiting for something to happen, something to be created, something to be set in motion or existence. When you were conceived, a time space event occurred in this invisible field of energy. You were created. You came from this omnipresent energy to become present in time and space. Read more... Spirit is a Force
Spirit is a force that exists in the universe. It is energy. And to be a mature man is to be a spiritual one. You may understand spirit as inspiration, an inner voice, life, the universe, or God himself. In The bible says what God is in John 4:24. It is written that God is a Spirit. God is spirit. A universal, omnipresent spirit. When people, who are in spirit, or inspired, believe for something in their lives to come about, this universal energy, this internal source of power, makes it so. You may have noticed that truly spiritual people have everything they desire, want and believe. They accomplish what they set out to do. You and I too can live like this. Read more... The Fear of Limitation
Do you have a fear of limitation? Do you feel that you can do more, but aren't? Are you limiting yourself in some way? Many men limit themselves. They don't know what they can really do, because they have never explored their limitations, never fulfilling their maximum capacity. For example, think about your work or your relationship with your lover or children. Are your fears of contributing more stop you from living a more enjoyable life? Is it possible that you could be making more money in a new, more enjoyable way? Could your relationship with your wife be better--much better? Are your kids growing up thinking how amazing their dad is? Read more... It Never Ends
If you're waiting for a completion of anything in life - stop. It never ends. For men, the game goes on an on, and there's no final ending. Life is in infinite overtime. Many men think that one day it'll all come together, and it'll all be done. And that you'll have achieved your goal, and then, and only then, will you be able to do what you really want to do. Men think that if they work hard enough, or long enough, then one day they'll get to rest and really enjoy life. Or, you might be thinking, "One day, she'll come around and understand me, and then we'll have that happy life together that I've been working so hard for." Or, maybe you're thinking that what you're doing now is very hard work and is absolutely necessary -- so that later, you can do what you really want to do in life. Read more... Why Men Watch Football
If you have a masculine nature, you likely have a sense of "mission" in life - a strong conviction, a drive to do something big, achieve goals, accomplish, and conquer. Now, of course, you enjoy your wife and kids, being a great husband and father. But deep down, there's something about working on your mission in life - what you feel you were called to do. If you have not yet found or defined your mission, you might feel like there's something missing in your life, even if you're family life is full of joy. The feminine has at their core a strong sense of love. They may have an incredibly successful professional career, but deep down, there's something missing. At the core of the feminine is an essential need to have love flowing and abundant. If love is not found, one might feel like there's something missing in life. Mission is masculine. In our family fellowship, I taught about unconditional love and tips on raising children. This morning my daughter and I got up early and we both saw the amazing sky with bright orange and yellow colors in the clouds. The Sun was just coming up, and it was making a fantastic display for us to enjoy. I said that we can get better look at the Sun and its brilliance by jumping into the car and driving to a spot that I knew. We did just that. When we got to the place a few moments later, we realized that the Sun stopped shining, the clouds blocked the morning rays, and we were just not in the right time and place anymore. We missed it. Enjoying Sun's brilliance and beauty was conditional upon us being at the right place and time. God's love is just like the Sun. The Sun is always shining. It doesn't care who you are, how old you are, where you are, or what time it is. It's always shining brightly, beaming, warming and providing life. It's up to us to learn how to turn towards the Sun (towards God) and enjoy it's live-giving powers. Read more... To Bring Suffering to an End, One Must Think
I was snorkeling in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System off the coast of Akumal, Mexico. It's the second largest barrier reef system on Earth. I saw amazing coral and fish on a grand scale. If I didn't know I was on Earth, it would have seemed extraterrestrial. Me. Coral reef. Hot sun. Crystal clear ocean water. Surrounded by life beyond my imagination. It was one of those moments. Or, maybe it was the lingering effects of the margaritas de la casa shared with my wife the night before. Not sure. But it was an extraordinary moment of mindfulness and insight.

A Man's Basic Role
It was once said that the character of a man starts from his shoes and works its way up. The photo above is of my old work shoes. So, let's talk about a man's character. His role. Starting not with his shoes, but with his responsibilities as a man. A man's most important responsibility is to be:
Fathering By Getting Close
When it comes to being a father, there's one main principle to keep in mind: move as close to the target you can before shooting. Well, it's really my basketball rule for myself. You see, I'm not a very good basketball player. My free-throws are okay, but I have no long shot. So, my rule is to get as close to the hoop as possible before shooting the ball. From 30 feet from the hoop, I suck. From 3 feet, I'm amazing. Just as every shooter knows, the closer you are, the better. As it is in basketball, or any other sport that has a target, the closer you are, the better. As you increase your distance from the target, even the smallest mistakes are magnified. And this principle can be applied to fathering. What's true in basketball is true in fathering. If you are going to be a great father, you have to get close. Close to your kid. Read more... How to Lead Women & Children
Leadership can be difficult. The following are 12 principles for a man to study and apply in order to effectively lead women and children, particularly in his family. Let's go through them one by one, starting with taking charge and putting your house in order. They include:
Reacting to Hurt
A superior man opens his chest, relaxes his stomach, and breathes it in. Absorbs it. This is the reaction of a skillful person when faced with fear, anxiety, or pain. Imagine making a major mistake at work, getting caught lying to your woman, overhearing a college or friend speak terribly of you. How would you react? Most men get very tense. They quickly turn away, close up, or pretend for a moment that it never happened, or is not happening. This provides a few moments, maybe only seconds to stop, confirm, and evaluate the situation. The ideal man is one of both steel and velvet. The velvet qualities are different from those of steel (Read about steel qualities of a man). In comparison to a building, the steel is the foundation and hard skeleton structure within the building, burdened with the weight of everything. The velvet is the outer skin, the lighter outer layer that moves and bends upon the structure, and provides the softer appearance and interaction with the world. One is tied to the other. Without the strong inner framework, the building would not function, but fail under pressures and forces. The exterior covering provides softness and beauty to the otherwise hardened mass of steel. When the steel and the velvet work together well, they comprise the ideal, superior man - a masterpiece. Read more... Spirituality and Religion
How you think about the world around you, directly affects how you live in it. Your thoughts influence your actions. And spirituality is different from religion in that one is about how your consciousness (mind, thoughts) is connected to the universe; the other is about how one man controls another. Spirituality is about a state of mind, where religion is about a state of fear. God is not religion, and vice versa. For example, there is a religion that teaches that a savior will one day throw unbelievers into a lake of fire, killing them all. Another teaches that suicidal killing of unbelievers is the highest form of believing. The challenge for me is to teach my children about love, compassion, ethics, freedom, enlightenment, and doing good without getting trapped by religious dogma that is in direct conflict with those virtues. Religion is not the way. There must be another. And I believe I'm on the right path. And it leads directly to the brain. The exploring the mind is most important when learning about being a spiritual person, someone enlightened, not conformed to this world, but transformed. Full of light. A person in spirit. In the end, your life will amount to only how close you came to realizing your deepest truth (whatever that may be). Don't let your daily tasks, your work, the mundane things you do to fill your day, become the most important thing you focus on. Men do that. They focus. Be careful what you focus on. Have you ever been totally focused on something your doing? And you don't want to be disturbed. The kids or the wife come by and ask you questions. Augh! What do they want?! Can't they see that you're working? That you're focused? This focus is a strength that men have. Read more... Fulfilling a Masculine Role
Within men is the desire for personal fulfillment. This is derived in the following three ways:
Empirical Approach to God: Experiment #1
The greatest discovery for any human being is a spiritual one. Spirit is a powerful energy that people have never seriously studied as we have in the past with physical forces. Someday we'll fully understand that the material world around us is not the source of joy and love, does not bring forth happiness and fulfillment, but is a mere reflection of our creative minds. When we turn inwards, and begin a real study of the spiritual forces that manifest themselves in the material world, we'll see for the first time what's really happening. Everything comes from within. And, if this is true, it can be studied. So, let's study. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are faith-based religions whose central teachings do not provide adherents empirical, scientifically valid approaches to living. Read more... Petruchio

Masculine & Feminine Nature
I think about 85% of people, men and women, heterosexual or homosexual have either a nature (physically, mentally, sexually) that is more masculine than feminine or more feminine than masculine. Most people have a certain essence in their being. Do you like to watch football and boxing? Or do you prefer love stories and dramas? Can you kill a spider? Or do you prefer to ask someone else to do it for you? Or maybe you enjoy doing both. Would you rather have your sexual partner stronger than you? Or would you rather be the one who lovingly ravishes? Do you want to be swept off your feet? Or do you want to be the knight in shining armor? Or maybe you're turned on by both. For most people, they would prefer to be either the initiator in a healthy sexual relationship or the receiver, the ravisher or the ravishee. Sexual polarity is important in their relationship. About 15% are neutral and have a balanced nature about themselves and sexual polarity is not that important to their loving relationship. Either way, if you want a good, healthy relationship (physically, mentally, and spiritually), you ought to know your sexual nature. Are you more masculine, more feminine, or are you neutral? Figure that out. It shouldn't be too difficult. And then live true to your nature. Read more... How Mindfulness Makes You Powerful
The King's Guide is written to help men investigate certain spiritual truths, without accepting metaphysical abstractions. One important factor for men to consider is that a man's life is now. Life is rich with experiences to enjoy. Life is not in the past, and it's not in the future. Life is now. This is the self-evident truth. Men should be mindful of this. Why? Because, before you know it, life passes you by. Ten years have got behind you, and now what? The truth about life is that it's happening right now. Seems a bit simple to say, "Life is now." Yet it's liberating to realize this simple truth. Being free -- physically, mentally, spiritually -- rests upon fully knowing that life is happening right now. This is it. Make no mistake where you are. Read more... Media is the Necessary Evil That Kills Kids
